At the visit

You stay beside your child

A first visit is mostly a conversation. Nothing happens to a tooth until your child has seen the tool and heard what it does.

  • Show, then do

Each tool is shown and named before it is used.

  • Brothers and sisters together

Ask for back-to-back times, so one trip covers everyone.

  • A plan in writing

You leave with what the dentist saw and what comes next.

Over the years

A child's visits, age by age

The dentist sets the schedule for each child. These are the usual stops.

  1. 01

Step 1: The first tooth or first birthday

A short visit for a baby on a parent's lap, with time for your questions about brushing, feeding and pacifiers.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Toddlers and preschoolers

Checkups where the child gets to know the chair, the light and the mirror, and a cleaning when the dentist thinks it is time.

  3. 03

    Step 3: School years

Regular checkups as baby teeth fall out and new ones come in, with care for any tooth that needs it.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Teens

Visits that treat a teenager as the patient, and a look at how the bite is growing.

Before your first visit

When should my child first see a dentist?

Many dentists suggest a first visit around a child's first birthday or when the first tooth comes in. You are welcome to come sooner with questions. The first visit is short and mostly a talk.

Can I bring all my children at once?

Yes. When you call or send a request, tell us how many children are coming and how old they are, and ask for back-to-back times. We book them one after another at the same office whenever the schedule allows.

Can I stay with my child?

Yes. Parents sit beside the chair for the whole visit, and some older children ask us to step back a little. We follow your child's lead.

Do you take our insurance?

We are in network with some PPO dental plans and out of network with others. Give us your plan's name and we will tell you which before the visit. How fees work lists the details.

What if my child is afraid?

Tell us what worries your child before you come. We show the tools, say what we will do and go at your child's pace. A short first visit with no treatment is a fine start.

Bring everyone, and we'll find the times

Tell us how many children are coming and their ages. We call, text or email back with times at the office you choose.
